C L R James Tea Towel
This stunning tea towel design by Radical Tea Towel Company celebrates the writer C L R James and his revolutionary contribution to Black literature.
Cyril Lionel Robert James (1901-1989) was a Trinidadian writer, socialist and pioneering voice in postcolonial literature. He was also lived in our home location, Brixton.
He wrote World Revolution in 1937, a history of the Communist International organisationl, which provoked much debate in Trotskyist circles. In 1938, he wrote The Black Jacobins, an account of the Haitian Revolution. He also wrote plays and fiction. His novel Minty Alley (1936) was the first by a Black West Indian to be published in Britain. He also wrote on cricket, and his 1963 book of reminiscences Beyond a Boundary is considered by many the best ever book on cricket.
The tea towel is made from sturdy, half panama weave, unbleached cotton, and it's designed and made in the UK. The special inks used to print this design mean that its vibrant colours will last in the wash.
Use it for its original purpose or frame it and hang it on a wall.
